I thought I would share a glimspe of the culture of Lancaster, Pennsylvania (my home). The photos are taken at Central Market, the oldest farmer’s market in the United States and one of the top ten in the world. The market offers food culture from around the world but its uniqueness lies in its concentration of Amish and Mennonite vendors, which is what I’m focusing on in this post. If you would like a more detailed look at this historic market, I wrote about it here last summer. Thanks for taking a peek.
Lancaster’s Central Market
wonderful shots.. and I see they sell chow-chow..Yum!
Thanks! The whoopie pies are more of a problem for me.
The attire of the sellers looks very cultural. Great shots.
Thank you!
Good choice for a culture prompt. Reminds me of Reading Market in Philly. We have a number of wonderful farmer’s markets in the Cleveland area but not as many Amish vendors. I love markets!

It’s very much like Reading Terminal Market – just smaller and the building is prettier. I love markets, too!
I love a farmers market. so colourful, so much to see and taste.
I agree wholeheartedly!
When I lived in Philadelphia they had many of the vendors with stalls in their Reading Terminal Market. We LOVED their stuff across the board. You are lucky to be so close!
I do live near several wonderful markets and consider myself very blessed. Thanks for taking the time to comment, Tina.
As your words describe, it is unique and historic Lancaster personified undoubtedly…two thumbs up for sharing this..
Thank you!
